Whether you've been to Greece before or are planning your first visit to this world-famous destination, there are a lot of places to consider while writing up your itinerary.

When thinking of Greece, Athens, Santorini, and maybe Mykonos come to mind... but what else is there to see in Greece? What other towns, islands, or cities are worth traveling to?

We've curated a list of some of the best places to visit in Greece, whether you're heading there for a quick trip or planning a multi-island excursion.

Meteora, Greece

Meteora is a gorgeous, lesser-known destination in central-northern Greece. With UNESCO World Heritage status, this place is as cultural as it is epic, which is truly the right word to describe it.

History buffs, outdoor enthusiasts, and the spiritually inclined should consider adding it to their list of places to go. High on the rocky cliffs, there's a monastery with stunning views. Hikers and rock climbers are also partial to the area, where you can find trails you'll never forget.

Spetses, Greece

A small island (and town) in the Saronic Islands, Spetses isn't that far from Athens.

This island is sometimes called "the island of aromas" because of its pine and lemon trees that mix with the fresh, salty sea air. Anyone looking for a quiet, romantic trip should consider a stop in Spetses.

From strolling the cobblestone streets to exploring the luxurious beaches, even if you visit Spetses alone, you'll probably leave in love (with the island, anyhow).

Kastellorizo, Greece

Kastellorizo is a tiny island and town near Turkey that is famous for its colorful harbor. Travelers interested in maritime history will particularly enjoy exploring its rich history and bright blue waters.

Located in the Dodecanese Islands in the Southeastern Aegean Sea, the island is far off the beaten path, making it an ideal stop for those looking for a unique place to visit. Because of its remoteness, getting there will take some planning, but it's entirely worth it.
